At Sussex Art Gallery, we strive to showcase a diverse range of artistic pictures. We aim to make art work affordable to many, while not compromising quality. Many fine art pictures to interesting art work from a wide range of artists. We have a large collection of local Sussex pictures and many by local artist and date back into Sussex history. Our pictures range from 19th to 21st century.
We have all the pictures you see on the site for sale if not reserved and can be viewed at a home address or planned event in Sussex. If you are interested in any pictures you can email us and more details can be given and photographs sent. The prices are on request only and depends on postage or collection. Measurements are approx. include the frame, if you need picture size only, let us know.
We are planning to hold a exhibition of some of our pictures in 2026 in Sussex for a opportunity to chat, view and buy. Pictures can be sent by post but many are large with glass and though as very well packed, damage to the glass can happen and we can not take reasonability for glass damage. New pictures to buy are regularly added.

Jan Van Couver (1836-1909) watercolour of a Dutch harbour. He was recognized for his exquisite watercolours. Louis Van Staaten and Jan Van Couver was a pseudonym used by Hermanus Koekkoek the younger. He moved to London in 1869 and used Louis Van Staaten (picture found in other section) for the British market, so this is likely dated before 1869. In a gold coloured frame.

Signed monochrome painting by Jay Nottingham called 'Moonlight stroll'. He was born in 1972 in Bedfordshire followed in the footsteps of his artistic family and has grown into a very well known contemporary artist. He created his paintings with a palette knife giving his paintings a 3 dimensional effect.

A beautiful large signed oil canvas by Charles Francois Prosper Guerin the French painter 1875 - 1939. He was a revolutionary artist who experimented with Fauvism. The title is 'Elegants in a park' and 23 inch -27 inch framed. The condition is good with some paint damage bottom right. He was a friend and admirer of Cezanne . His figures are painted is a skilful mix of realism and romanticism.

A signed painting by Pieter Vanm Der Westuizan 1931-2008 called 'Lone Tree'. He is a very popular and prolific South African Artist. This painting is dated 1998 and in painted in Pastels. He was born in Pretoria studied in South Africa and Royal Academy of fine arts in Antwerp Belgium . A very similar painting by this artist called 'Midnight sun' sold in Bonham's for £2,500. George Edward Alexander (1865-1931) watercolour titled 'Aldwick sands' in Sussex 1920 signed. W 40 cm H 30 cm

Frederick James Aldridge (1850 - 1933) our favourite local artist. We have a large collection of his work, these are just a few. He was born in Worthing, Sussex and started painting when he was 20. He opened a art shop in 1905 in Warwick street and eventually became Whibley Gallery in 1965 after being owned by Aldridge family.

His whole life lived in Worthing but did travel aboard to paint and was a regular visitor to Cowes week to the Isle of White for over 50 years. He painted mostly marine and harbour scenes in oil or watercolur. In 1927 he stopped painting due to eyesight failing and became blind. Often painting around Shoreham, Littlehampton, south coast.

Frederick James Aldridge (1850 - 1933) signed watercolour called 'off Shoreham sussex'. He was renowned for his watercolours and exhibited at the Royal Academy many other prestigious venues including an exhibition at Brighton in 1909. In very good condition for age. W 18 inch 22 inch.

The above painting is typical of his paintings of marine focus which includes mid-sized sailing vessels, clippers and fishing boats at sea or in harbours.
